Introduction / History

The Atyab (also known as Katab) are concentrated in Southern Kaduna State, in the upper Kaduna River valley of Nigeria. Their name is believed to have been derived from katambari, the Hausa word for camwood (a trade item). The Atyab were once headhunters.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Atyab have endured centuries of tribal and regional violence. This has continued into the 21st century. Despite attempts to make peace, they continue to face Fulani terror attacks. In the rainy season, the Atyab engage in farming. In the dry season, they hunt.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The majority now consider themselves to be Christians, yet only a small percentage are evangelical. They continue to practice animistic religion.

What Are Their Needs?

The Atyab have endured a long history of conflict and oppression. They would benefit greatly from an encounter with the Prince of Peace. They need God's protection

Prayer Items

Pray for the hearts of the Atyab to be open to the gospel message.
Pray for them to experience the peace and rest found only in Jesus Christ.
Pray for revival in their churches, leading to the abundant life only Christ can offer—for them and neighboring peoples they encounter.
